Haere Ra Tāmaki Makaurau

Massive thanks to all friends & family whose generosity makes this trip a reality. We really can’t thank you enough.

Bye Manukau Harbour
Bye Auckland

Auckland really put in its finest Autumn morning for us, not only that our flight was super calm and early.

Konnichiwa Tokyo

We arrived at Narita Airport in Tokyo just after 6pm and it was still very warm. Despite being early, Customs was slow going, and it was much later than we expected when we got out, we decided to catch the fast train rather than the bus. Narita is a good 90 minutes away from central Tokyo by the express bus, and an hour by train.

This was a terrible life decision, what we hadn’t considered is that the Japanese love systems, and the fast train ticketing kiosk seemed more like a Mensa exam. After we failed miserably on multiple occasions, we dutifully waited with the other confused foreigners for a sole ticket agent to sort us out.

From this point it was very easy, the fast train delivered us to Tokyo Station, from there we navigated the subway to Akihabara to our hotel.

We finished our day at our hotel with a traditional Japanese meal of wood-fired pizza.
