Berlin to Prague – Day Nineteen

Thursday September 19 –

Bye Berlin

We leave Berlin mid-morning heading for Prague, this is a four hour train journey.

Itโ€™s been great.

Train to Prague

The train from Berlin is pretty easy. The landscape barely changes until we hit the Czech border. If you like flat, paddocks & beech trees, this is the ride for you.

Dresden. Itโ€™s not all paddocks.

Floods

The train at this stage starts following the Elbe River, which is in flood after heavy rains that have affected much of Central Europe.

The Elbe River.
Bad Schandau.

Prague

We get into Prague slightly later than scheduled. We were about to get off the train at Prague, luckily a young German guy advised that thereโ€™s two Prague stations, and this one would be about an hour long walk from our hotel.

Prague Central station has strong 1970s sci-fi vibes.
Cobble stones can be brutal, we have strangely become highly appreciative of asphalt.

We have been very lucky with our accommodation during the trip. Our new room we have in Prague is huge. It feels we could sub-let part of it for a yoga studio. It even has stairs! Stairs!

Exploring Prague

Prague is a beautiful city, but itโ€™s also still recovering economically after the years under communist rule, as such thereโ€™s a mix of very new & old.

This is new. A Butterfly-Spitfire. Its wings literally flap. Prague has also embraced surrealism as itโ€™s the home town of the author Franz Kafka.

Old Town Square

We decide to explore the Old Town, this has a slightly odd mix of beautiful old buildings & party-town vibe.

Prague Old Town Square. It was hectic! A lot of humans. The Church of our Lady before Tรฝn in the centre.
Pretty.
Us in the Old Square.
The frescoes on the buildings are incredible. We love the old couple with the matching hats.

More Old Town

We push on to see more of the Old Town.

Dragging your knuckles on the ground.
Enchanting.
Kafka himself. And a giant empty suit. No me neither.
The nearby Spainish Synagogue. It survived the War & has been restored. Unfortunately we werenโ€™t able to go in, its interior looks amazing.
Hey Barbie letโ€™s go party.
ฤŒech Bridge was built in 1908 & is the only Art Nouveau bridge in Prague.
Sunset over the Prague Castle & the Vltava River.
They rolled out the Red Carpet. Rudolfinium is a Concert Hall & Art Gallery.
Rudolfinium winged Victory.
Czech eagles are very well dressed.
The Charles Bridge.
We stumbled across the Rotunda Church on the way home, it dates to 1142.

Walked 12.2km / 17701 Steps
