Paris – Day Nine

Monday September 9

Louvre

We previously had booked online to go to the Louvre at midday, and with the weather packing in it was a good indoor day. The main entrance to the Louvre is the glass pyramids by I.M.Pei, which was cool to see in the flesh.

Obligatory selfie outside the Louvre while waiting.
Louvre
The front door
Nice stair, there’s a lift in the middle. I promise to try & spare you photos of architectural nerdy stuff like flashings and handrails.

Our strategy is to go straight to see the Mona Lisa, no else had thought of this cunning plan.

This is what we imagined.
This is what we got. It’s there at the back. Magical.

Louvre is unfathomable, so much amazing art & historical artefacts, but the building itself is equally impressive.

Fancy hat. Missed which King this belong to.
The Seated Scribe dates from 2500 BC
Psyche revived by Cupids kiss – by Antonio Canova
Henry III of France, we think he has Taika Waititi energy.
Napoleon III Apartments – these are just amazing and very hard to capture in a photograph. So much gold.
Okay I lied here’s a fancy handrail. At least it’s not a flashing.

Eiffel Tower

We headed to the Eiffel Tower, it’s definitely impressive. They were dismantling the temporary stadium for the Olympics/Paralympics beside the tower. Also you can’t walk underneath it anymore, and it has a mix of bulletproof glass and pleasantly decorative security fencing around it. Sadly it’s necessary after the 2015 terrorist attacks.

On the way we pass the National Assembly – France’s lower house with painted Venus de Milo’s doing sporty stuff for the Olympics.
Iconic
It was pretty drizzly at the Eiffel Tower so we head back to hotel

Walked 18.5km / 25892 steps
